You get in, strap the seat belt, and then pull down on the safety bar. The operators give the "okay to go" sign and before you know it, you're off. You slowly rise with a clank, clank, clank, clank, clank...until all of a sudden everything stops. For a brief shining, moment, you are floating at the apex of the hill... suspended in movement and breath...until your stomach drops and you sharply inhale to bellow a 'wake-the-dead' scream as the roller coaster races to the bottom of the hill, gaining enough momentum to finish the track in record time. As the ride comes to a screeching halt, you unbuckle and step-out onto your shaking legs, only to ask...want to do it again???
If you're a roller coaster junkie, you probably already know that the East Coast has the largest, fastest roller coasters in the country. Coasters like Hydra the Revenge and Steel Force in Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom® (in Pennsylvania) or Top Thrill Dragster and Wicked Twister at Cedar Point® (in Ohio) race, rip, roar and roll and are sure to kick-start any vacation. However, the parks that house these incredible, gravity-defying machines are also home to Broadway-style shows, water parks, tremendous restaurants and a vast assortment of less adrenaline powered entertainment. For example, at Morey's Piers® in Wildwood, New Jersey, the AtmosFEAR will launch you into a 50mph free fall but for a more family-centered experience, the Sky Cycle monorail is sure to please. One thing is for sure, when you ride these coasters, your family's worries over work-school-deadlines-finances will be instantaneously erased, replaced by ear-to-ear smiles and excitement. Most parks are scheduled to open in early May, so what are you waiting for...plan an adrenaline powered getaway today!
